Arctic air and wintry precipitation is headed to North Texas on Friday, January 23 and lasting through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service of Fort Worth. Here’s the latest information about road safety and conditions, closures and more.
In communication and coordination with TxDOT and our roadway maintenance crews, all DFW managed lanes are closed, beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 23. Variable speed limit signs on I-35W will also be activated during that time.
We will continue to monitor weather conditions as the winter storm moves through North Texas, and implement our winter maintenance operations toward safely re-opening the roadways.

If the roads are icy or wet, remember the following when you’re driving – and only drive if you have to!
- Make sure tires are properly inflated and have plenty of tread before leaving.
- Keep at least half a tank of fuel in your vehicle at all times.
- Don’t warm up your vehicle in an enclosed space, like a garage.
- Do not use cruise control when driving on any slippery surface, like ice or snow.
- Drive slowly and accelerate and decelerate slowly.
- Don’t power up hills or stop going up a hill.
