Ferrovial Construction’s North Tarrant Express Capacity Improvement project is celebrating crossing the 25% completion mark! The project team has successfully used hydrodemolition to complete eight bridge demolitions, minimizing disruptions for travelers and allowing for precise demolition. They have placed 42 bridge beams and poured over 11,000 tons of asphalt.

Despite implementing ~7,000 lane closures, there have been no negative impacts or delays to the TEXpress managed lanes. This remarkable achievement highlights the efficiency and effectiveness of the management strategies in place, allowing the TEXpress lanes to operate smoothly.

“The execution of the NTE capacity improvement project is progressing as planned, which we anticipated many years ago to accommodate the region’s growth,” said Jose Espinosa, CEO of NTE. “Thanks to our collaboration with NTI, TxDOT and our partner cities, construction has had minimal impact on traffic.”

The construction teams at North Tarrant Infrastructure have been working diligently and recently set all the beams needed at the I-820/SH 121/SH 183 interchange. This area alone required 22 beams, more than half of the 42 total placed this year! Due to its location, all lanes of westbound Airport Freeway, including the TEXpress lanes, had to be closed to place the beams. This was the biggest impact on drivers since construction began, but thanks to the crews’ hard work and dedication, the lanes reopened ahead of schedule every time.

“Achieving the 25% milestone is a major step forward in our expansion journey. This accomplishment highlights the dedication and focus of our entire team. With the same level of drive and collaboration, I am confident we will continue to reach our goals and enhance mobility in the region,” stated Ignacio Milans, CEO of NTI.

There’s still more work to be done, but here’s a quick recap of some of the work that’s already taken place.
