Green Roads: LBJ TEXpress Enhances Dallas Highway with Native Wildflowers

The LBJ TEXpress has successfully completed its first wildlife area along the I-635 highway corridor in Dallas, Texas. This milestone marks a significant step forward in the concession’s sustainability strategy and reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship.

Strategically located at the TI interchange for maximum visibility among motorists in the area, this initiative not only enhances the visual appeal of the LBJ infrastructure project but also aligns with TxDOT’s mission to preserve and enhance Texas’s natural beauty through wildflower planting. As stated on TxDOT’s Wildflower Program website, “wildflowers add beauty to roadsides and provide habitats for various species while also helping to control soil erosion.”

In collaboration with Native American Seed, the TEXpress Operations & Maintenance team conducted thorough analyses of soil and environmental conditions before planting a diverse variety of wildflower species native to the Texas region. The beautiful array includes:

We believe that integrating nature into infrastructure not only enhances aesthetics but also fosters biodiversity and supports local ecosystems.”

As we look forward to witnessing these stunning blooms from early spring through summer, we anticipate that this vibrant wildlife habitat will not only beautify the landscape but also support pollinators and local wildlife—echoing TxDOT’s commitment to promoting “the conservation of natural resources by utilizing native plants.”

To educate motorists about our restoration project, TEXpress O&M teams have installed informative roadway signage in the area. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by TEXpress towards sustainable practices that benefit both our community and environment, while also creating greener infrastructure solutions.
