As a long-time partner with Tarrant Area Food Bank (TAFB), the TEXpress team recently visited Central Bible Storehouse (CBS), a food pantry located at a small church in East Fort Worth, to visit with some of the beneficiaries of TAFB.
Established in 2021, the Storehouse serves over 200 families daily and has been a beacon of hope for the community, having distributed food to more than 4,000 households and generously donated over 220,000 food items in partnership with TAFB. The Storehouse is a hub of support with volunteers from various staffing agencies, along with mental health counselors on-site, offering everything from employment assistance to spiritual guidance.
While at the Storehouse, TEXpress representatives had the opportunity to speak with Gloria Garnica, a beneficiary turned volunteer at the food pantry. Before she found CBS, Gloria was unable to work because of a brain aneurysm. She struggled to keep her family fed and in 2022, she found the helping folks at CBS. The kindness and compassion she received not only filled her pantry but also warmed her heart. Inspired by the love she was shown, Gloria decided to give back, so in late 2023, she began volunteering and dedicated her time and energy to help others in need.
Today, Gloria continues to volunteer at CBS. She is a testament to the power of community, kindness, and the human spirit.
Every year, TEXpress’ highway concessions partner with TAFB in challenging our highway users to support local food pantries through an annual “Drive Away Hunger” initiative. The fundraising campaign provides substantial resources to TAFB, which then distributes food inventory to pantries like CBS. “A heartfelt thank you to the TAFB donors,” expressed Gloria. “These generous contributions make a tremendous difference in our neighbors’ lives.”
The enduring partnership between TEXpress Lanes and TAFB is a testament to their collective commitment to addressing food insecurity and nurturing a spirit of unity and compassion.
“A heartfelt thank you to the TAFB donors, these generous contributions make a tremendous difference in our neighbors’ lives.”
