HOV/Express Lanes Corridors

HOV/Express Lanes, a form of TEXpress Lanes, are hybrid HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes and express lanes that run in the middle of existing highways. HOV users such as carpool drivers, most vanpool drivers and motorcyclists pay zero toll cost to use them if they have a valid toll tag and register/activate as an HOV user prior to driving. Solo drivers and vehicles without toll tags may also use them for a fee. Click here for more info on HOV Discount Qualifications and Activation.

Characteristics of HOV/Express Lanes:

  • Existing HOV lanes that are transitioned to managed operations with minimal reconstruction efforts
  • Feature tolls based on a fixed-fee schedule
  • Are not designed to maintain a minimum speed limit, even during peak travel times
  • Have limited entrances and exits
  • Open to HOV drivers for zero toll cost via registering/activating as an HOV user prior to driving, and solo drivers for a fee
