Drive On TEXpress Web App How-To Guide

Follow the step-by-step instructions below to create your Drive On TEXpress account. Learn how to activate and cancel your HOV status, schedule your HOV status using the calendar and more.

How to Create Your Drive On TEXpress Account

 Tap on the "New To Drive On TEXpress" link.

 

 Fill in the ACCOUNT INFORMATION.

  • Enter your Email Address or Cell Phone Number (only one is needed, but you can enter both) for your user name
  • Enter your ZIP Code
  • Enter your Password, then re-type it for confirmation
  • Choose a Security Question and type in your answer

The rest of the fields is optional and can be modified in the user settings at any time.

 To add a vehicle (optional), scroll to the bottom of the form to access "Vehicle Information," then select the ‘+’ plus symbol located on the right-hand side of the page.

  • You may add up to 5 vehicles on your account (but only one user can be logged in)
  • Enter each vehicle's License Plate Number and State where the license plate was issued
  • Enter each vehicle's TollTag, TxTag or EZ TAG number (Tag Number)

If you don't register your vehicles at this point, many options inside the application will be grayed out and won't be available for use until at least one vehicle is registered.

To register your vehicles, proceed to the "VEHICLES" tab in the "My Profile" section and press the '+' plus symbol. If you need to edit your vehicle information, use the pencil icon.

The rest of the fields is optional and can be filled in or updated in the "VEHICLES" tab in the "Profile" section at any time. You also have the ability to:

  • Give each vehicle a nickname/account name, such as “John’s Honda,” to help you identify them quickly
  • Add the make, model and year of each vehicle

 Click the "SUBMIT" button and that's it!

You'll receive an email with an activation link (simply follow it) or an SMS with an activation code. Both expire within 24 hours, so sign in as soon receive the activation link or code otherwise you'll need to restart the account registration process.

How to Sign In

Sign In

 Enter your email or cell phone number and your password under the "Sign In" section.

 Click the "Submit" button.

You will be directed to the Drive On TEXpress home page. Depending on if you have at least one registered vehicle, the landing page might vary.

With no vehicles registered, the page functionality is limited to the 'My Profile' and 'About' tabs. With registered vehicles all options become available.

 

Activating the Account by Email or SMS for the First Time

If you received an email with a link, simply click on the link within 24 hours (otherwise the code expires) and your account will be activated.

If you received an SMS with an activation code, perform the following steps within 24 hours (before the code expires):

Click on the "SIGN-IN" link on the sign-in screen.

Enter your cell phone number and the activation code you received by SMS, then click on "Submit." You will receive confirmation that the activation was successful.

NOTE: If your email link or SMS activation code expires, you will need to restart the registration process.

 

Did You Forget Your Password?

 Enter the sign-in screen.

Click on the "Password/Account Reset" link at the bottom of the sign-in screen.

 Type your user ID (email address or cell phone number). You will receive either an email with a link, if you provided an email address, or a code, if you provided a cell phone number. Either can be used to reset your password. 

NOTE: The email link and activation code will expire in 24 hours, requiring you to restart the registration process.

If you received an email, click the link included in the email. If you received an SMS, click on the "in the following page" link, which will open a new screen requiring you to enter your cell phone number and code. Follow the remaining steps described in the account activation process.

How to Activate or Cancel Your HOV Status

Activate Your HOV Status

This option won't be available unless you have at least one vehicle registered in Drive On TEXpress. Remember to request your HOV status activation at least 15 minutes prior to entering the TEXpress Lanes or HOV/Express Lanes, otherwise you will not be eligible for the discount.

Click on the arrow next to "ACTIVATE MY HOV STATUS NOW" in the blue bar. In 15 minutes, your HOV status will be granted. 

  • The top bar will change to "HOV PENDING" (with a yellow bar) and show a 15-minute countdown prior to your requested HOV activation period
    • The discount will only be applied to the "CURRENT VEHICLE"
    • The HOV discount can only be applied to one vehicle on your account; if you have multiple vehicles added, review your vehicle selection to ensure you have selected the desired one 
  • The top bar will change to "HOV GRANTED" (with a green bar) once your HOV status has been successfully activated; in addition, a countdown will inform you how much time remains before the HOV period expires

NOTE: The HOV periods vary depending on the roadway, and some TEXpress Lanes corridors do not offer HOV discounts on Saturdays and Sundays. Click on “About” on the navigation bar to view the specific HOV periods.

 

 

Cancel Your HOV Status

Once your HOV status has been requested or activated, you can cancel it at any time by clicking on the Cancel HOV button.

  • If you are in the HOV PENDING status the HOV bar deactivates immediately
  • If you are in the HOV GRANTED status, it will take approximately 10 minutes for your status to be canceled 

NOTE: If you enter the TEXpress Lanes during an HOV period as a solo driver before your status is canceled, you could be fined by law enforcement personnel.

 

Switch the Current Vehicle

Click on "Change Your Active Vehicle" under "My Profile" on the navigation bar to switch the current vehicle on your account.

 

Manage Your HOV Status by SMS

You can send the following messages by SMS (+1 972-992-7628) to activate or cancel your HOV status.

For instant HOV Activation, enter the following text:

  • ACTIVATE (Optional: Include your Vehicle License Plate Number. By default if no license plate number is provided, the selected vehicle is chosen.)
  • CANCEL (Optional: Include your Vehicle License Plate Number. By default if no plate is provided, the selected vehicle is chosen.)

How to Schedule Your HOV Status

Schedule Your HOV Status in Advance

Please note that this option won't be available unless you have at least one vehicle registered in Drive On TEXpress.

Click on the "HOV Activation" button on the navigation menu.

  • The HOV calendar shows the two HOV periods for each day (hover your mouse over the AM or PM periods or click on “About” on the navigation bar and then click on the "HOV Discount Info" to view the specific HOV periods and days, which vary depending on the roadway). You can schedule your HOV status up to 7 days in advance, starting with the current day shown. 
  • The HOV Schedule displayed corresponds to the "Selected Vehicle" 

Click on the HOV periods and days that you desire for your HOV status to be activated. NOTE: The HOV periods vary depending on the roadway, and some TEXpress Lanes corridors do not offer HOV discounts on Saturdays and Sundays.

Click on any of the other vehicles displayed in the green box to see the schedules for other vehicles.

 

Modify Your HOV Schedule

Click on the desired HOV periods(s) and day(s).

  • Selected periods will be displayed in green 
  • To deselect a period, just click on it

 Click on the "Save Schedule" button, and your schedule configuration will be saved.

 

Repeat an HOV Schedule 

Click on the "Previous Week" button if you want to load a previous schedule configuration and apply it to the current week.

Click on the "Save Schedule" button, and your schedule configuration will be saved.
